I'm seeking out a new vocabulary to describe the body. experimenting with new materials in sculpture, trying to find new processes that embody my thinking process and also that are interesting to work with.
My work in the past few months has been centred around building something up from a raw and natural material, now I'm wondering about ideas of breaking things open, revealing and concealing, the art-making happening in the destruction or interruption of a form. Thinking about layers of clay around a glassy resin, or incompatible clays, or stone, or wood. building around wood and burning it out. Pouring a form into a fragile shell and cracking it off, releasing it from its origin like an egg, or a seed breaking into a sprout, or the skin shedding from a snake or tarantula.
